BREAKING: Donald Trump and MAGA Health Secretary RFK Jr. get nightmare news as a super-coalition of Attorneys General from 19 states and D.C. band together to sue the administration over its “unconstitutional dismantling” of the Department of Health and Human Services.
And it gets even better…
“This administration is not streamlining the federal government; they are sabotaging it and all of us,” said New York Attorney General Letitia James.
“When you fire the scientists who research infectious diseases, silence the doctors who care for pregnant patients, and shut down the programs that help firefighters and miners breathe or children thrive, you are not making America healthy – you are putting countless lives at risk,” she added.
The mega-lawsuit demands that RFK’s so-called “restructuring” be stopped because it has resulted in the destruction of the agency and the dissolution of crucial life-saving programs.
Under Kennedy, the agency has been carrying out mass layoffs and compacted 28 agencies into 15 while closing half of HHS’s regional offices. The result is a crippled agency incapable of tending to the needs of the American people or properly preparing for the future.
The lawsuit points out that the firings were particularly targeted at workers from “disfavored work and programs” including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Food and Drug Administration, and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Given Kennedy’s anti-vax positions and anti-science beliefs, this should not be surprising.
“In its first three months, Secretary Kennedy and this administration deprived HHS of the resources necessary to do its job,” the Attorneys General wrote. “The terminations and reorganizations happened quickly, but the consequences are severe, complicated, and potentially irreversible.”
The suit alleges that the administration has violated hundreds of laws in its slash-and-burn approach, undermined and circumvented Congress, and “trampled the constitutional separation of powers.”
Arizona California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Michigan, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia are all involved in the suit.
